Comcast has just announced the company has completed updates for advanced network infrastructure in Peru’s industrial area. Businesses north of Interstate 80 and west of Plank Road along Industrial Drive in Peru now have access to Internet speeds up to 100 Gigabytes per second. Besides services that allow businesses to access cloud-based cybersecurity to protect all connected devices,  businesses will now be able to better connect with their customers quickly.

“The availability of this level of connectivity is a game-changer for businesses in the industrial area along West Plank Road and Industrial Drive,” said Bill Zens, Executive Director, of the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. “This will help the region attract and retain new businesses and help existing businesses in the area compete regionally, nationally, and even internationally.”

Network infrastructure is the hardware and software that enables network connectivity and communication between the Internet, apps, and different devices. Making sure all areas, nationwide, have high-speed Internet is a priority for companies like Comcast. Expansion is especially important with the trend of businesses finding it easier to expand their access with wireless connections rather than installing new cable connections.

In 2019, Governor J.B. Pritzker’s $45 billion Rebuild Illinois plan included $420 million to expand high-speed broadband internet access across Illinois. It’s all part of a plan to revitalize and grow Illinois’ economy.

As part of his historic $45 billion Rebuild Illinois investment strategy, in 2019 Governor J.B. Pritzker included $420 million to expand access to high-speed broadband internet across the state. A critical commitment to closing gaps and expanding opportunity, the Connect Illinois program is central to the Governor’s Five-Year Economic Plan to revitalize and grow the Illinois economy

“With thousands of miles of fiber-rich network infrastructure in this region alone, Comcast connects thousands of homes and businesses in Peru, LaSalle, and other parts of LaSalle County,” said Sean McCarthy, Comcast’s Regional Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives. “We believe our role is greater than that of a service provider; we’re really an economic development partner.”

In the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $1 billion In Illinois to expand network infrastructure. More than 70,000 miles of network infrastructure have been expanded, including WIFI hotspots.
