A two-vehicle crash the morning of July 26 on the 800 block of State St. in Ottawa killed one of the drivers. The Ottawa Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash around 10:48 a.m.
One of the vehicles involved hit a utility pole, and the driver was taken to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. The driver died from their injuries. The second driver was uninjured in the incident.
During a preliminary investigation, police discovered the driver who struck the utility pole was driving southbound in the northbound lane and struck a pole on the east side of the road. The driver then entered the southbound lane, which resulted in a crash with a passing vehicle. The incident is still under investigation.
