OSF St. Elizabeth Nurse Receives the DAISY Award

By WCMY News Jul 24, 2023 | 2:30 PM

OSF St. Elizabeth registered nurse Kailey Schomas received the DAISY award for extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care.

The DAISY foundation honors nurses who provide remarkable care across the globe. Nurses are nominated for the award by patients, visitors, fellow nurses, physicians and other hospital employees who share positive experiences with nursing staff. A patient, who Schomas comforted and educated about their diagnosis, nominated her.

“Kailey showed such kindness and compassion for not only me but also for my family that was visiting. She was patient and would explain things that I did not understand until I was able to understand them. Kailey would sit with me and ease my fears pertaining to my new diagnosis and answer any questions I had or would find out the answer and let me know. I feel they went above and beyond in my care, and I am so thankful they were my provider. Kailey Schomas exemplifies what I believe the DAISY award stands for and is very deserving of this honor,” Schomas’s nominator said.

Schomas works on the surgical floor at OSF and has been with the hospital for two years.
