County Board Chairman calls for forgiveness after County Clerk social media post

By WCMY News Jul 13, 2023 | 5:33 PM

LaSalle County Board Chairman Don Jensen says it’s time for forgiveness after a controversial Facebook meme was posted by LaSalle County Clerk Jennifer Ebner. Jensen says while she has the right to do it, he doesn’t approve of the post. The post showed a stick figure wearing colors of the American Flag kicking another stick figure wearing LGBTQ Flag colors in the stomach with the caption reading “It’s finally July.”

Although the post has since been taken down, this was the picture seen posted by LaSalle County Clerk Jennifer Ebner. People screen shoted the post before it was taken down.

Jensen says he wanted to look at the situation from a “Christian perspective” before he commented on the issue and wanted to say it as Don, not as the chairman. He later told biblical stories to the LaSalle County Board about forgiveness finishing with the statement “judge not less we be judged.

Ebner has since removed the post but says she does have First Amendment rights and what she posted doesn’t affect her performance as county clerk.
