The 2023 St. Bede girl’s softball team was honored for their recent 1A IHSA State Championship win at the Peru city council meeting on Wednesday night.
Council members and the public congratulated the team at the meeting and presented them with a championship road sign to commemorate their win. The sign will be hung in Washington Park in Peru. The city already posted another sign for the team in McKinley Park.
“… to see our local community come together and support these ladies and what they did was just phenomenal. And I think I can speak for the girls that this accomplishment, we hope in some way it inspires young girls like you said to go out for a sport and try to do the same thing,” Coach Shawn Sons said.
