The American Diabetes Association awarded OSF Streator and Ottawa the Education Recognition Certificate. This certificate verifies that the diabetes education services at OSF meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, developed by the National Diabetes Advisory Board. This recognition lasts for four years.
“Daily self-management skills are absolutely essential for people to effectively navigate the 24/7 challenges of living with diabetes, helping to keep them healthy and prevent or delay the serious complications of diabetes,” ADA’s VP of Professional Services Linda Cann said.
About 9.4% of people in the United States have diabetes, and the disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the CDC.
