The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has reduced the number court cases happening and put many on hold. LaSalle County First Assistance State’s Attorney Greg Sticka says that doesn’t mean that anyone will walk because their speedy trial rights were violated.
State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly says defendants can object and argue that charges against them should be dropped because of the delay, but isn’t sure if anything will come of it.
Sticka says the office is trying to work with defense attorneys so that any delays in trial are by agreement. Only certain cases are still going on including cases of those in custody and criminal felonies.
