After saying that a Grundy County traffic crash Late Sunday night resulted in two deaths, Illinois State Police now confirmed that only one person died.
43-year-old Brandon E. Heard of River Grove was driving a tractor truck tailor that hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee as it pulled into traffic on westbound I-80 east of Morris. Heard died in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the passenger suffered life threatening injuries.
It was originally said that the passenger had died.
The westbound lanes were closed for about seven hours, and then it was one-lane starting at 7am Monday.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said that the passenger in the Jeep Grand Cherokee died as a result of the crash based on information from Illinois State Police. ISP later said that only the driver of the tractor trailer died. The Jeep passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. We regret the error.
