IVCC Ottawa campus evacuated after gas leak

The Illinois Valley Community College Ottawa campus was evacuated Thursday morning because of a gas leak. A staff member told us that students outside of the campus smelled natural gas before 10am before the building closed and everyone left. The Ottawa Fire Department and Nicor Gas were called. Nicor later fixed the gas leak which was happening outside. They were already scheduled to fix something at the campus anyway. Everyone was allowed back onto the campus after 1pm. The staff member also told us that it was EMT training classes that were in session when the gas leak happened.
