The Streator Fire Department credits a passerby for helping stop a fire before it got seriously out of control. The fire department was called to the 200 block of E. Broadway Wednesday after someone noticed smoke coming from the porch attached to the home. It took firefighters less than five minutes to put out a small fire under the porch. The porch suffered minor damage and the home wasn’t affected. Firefighters say it was accidental but careless disregard of a cigarette contributed to fire. No one was injured.
