Peru Police Chief says don’t call officers stupid for trying to save lives

Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says his police officers aren’t stupid, they’re trying to save lives. Bernabei says some people have called officers stupid, either in person or on social media. That’s their reaction to being told they have to stay six feet apart from other people when out in public, especially at places like the Baker Lake trail, which is still open to the public.

Bernabei says it’s a fair question, why the social distancing rule applies to family members who will just go home to be close to each other anyway. He says it’s impossible for police to figure out who is and isn’t related, and then to keep it all straight, and to also answer questions about why some people can be close together but others can’t.
