County Board changes rules for projects bids to go to Highway Department with opposition

By WCMY News Jun 14, 2023 | 12:13 PM

Any project bids the LaSalle County Highway Department wants to get will now be delivered to the Highway Department on Dee Bennett Rd. The LaSalle County Board’s rules voted in earlier this year said that all bids for any project are turned at the Etna Rd. Courthouse in Ottawa.

County Board Chairman Don Jensen.

Chairman Don Jensen says he wanted to change the rule because he got questions after the County Highway committee was allowed to have their meetings at the department’s headquarters instead of at the courthouse. He says it’s inconvenient for bids to be delivered to the courthouse and then to the highway department building.

Board Member Arratta Znaniecki of Ottawa says the board rules say bids must be delivered to the courthouse and should stay that way.

The board voted 16-12 to allow bids to be sent directly to the highway department building. Here’s how the county board members voted:

No: JoAnee McNally, Kindra Pottinger, Catherine Owens, Jill Bernal, Mike Kasap, Joseph Savitch, Doug Trager, Tom Walsh, Brian Dose, Arratta Znaniecki, and Tina Busch.

Yes: Gary Small, Beth Findley-Smith, Kathy Bright, Craig Emmett, Douglas Stockley, Joseph Oscepinski, Gelinda Heller, David Torres, William Brown, Lou Anne Carretto, Stephen Aubry, Michael McEmery, Ronald Blue, Tony Tooley, Walter Roach, Matt Slager. Member Ray Gatza wasn’t at the meeting to vote.
