Carus Chemical says they’ve been doing more to help residents since the last town hall meeting in May. After hearing from frustrated residents affected by the January 11th fire, the chemical company says they’ve been listening to more residents about how they’ve been affected. The company reiterated that they didn’t get everything right during and after the fire earlier this year. One thing they’ve been working on is insurance claims, although Gail Borden with Carus says much of it is out of their control. 113 insurance claims Carus got have been extended, settled, or paid to 39 people totaling $391,000. 27 additional claims have been settled by non-Carus insurance carriers totaling $272,000. The company also says that the city of LaSalle wasn’t telling the truth when they said carus isn’t paying for the replacement of equipment and gear for the LaSalle Fire Department. The company says they’ve been working diligently with their insurance carriers regarding the fire department’s expenses and say the city has been paid in full. A second town hall is planned for this month. A date will be announced soon.
