Peru City Council changes City Clerks office hours

The Peru City Clerk’s Office is changing its office hours. The city council approved an ordinance last night to change the hours from 8-5 to 7am to 3:30. Six council members voted yes. Alderman Tom Payton and Andy Moreno abstained. City Clerk Dave Bartley says it was his idea to change the hours because he wants to work closely with other city departments that start at 7am. He also says there has been a change in workplace culture because of the pandemic.

Some council members asked about adjusting the hours because some residents might be mad that they can’t come in after four o’clock anymore. Alderman Payton was one of them.

Mayor Ken Kolowski says there will be a lot of information put out on social media and the city will monitor how much pushback there is to the change. Peru is unique in that the city council decides what the hours of the clerk’s office are.
