Marseilles Lock and Dam closing June 1st

By WCMY News May 16, 2023 | 1:09 PM

The Marseilles Lock and Dam is closing on June 1st. It’s part of summer construction projects being done by the US Army Corp of Engineers. Lock Master Clifford Wright says the lock and dam will be dewatered and no traffic will be allowed through. U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers Rock Island District Spokesman Tom Heinold says the Marseilles dam is getting a new electrical system. He says the current system was built in the 1930s and there are no parts available for it anymore.

It’s part of the second phase of lock and dam projects. The first phase started in 2020. The lock and dam is scheduled to stay closed until September 30th.
