The Lake Holiday Homeowners Association is paying about $100 per ton of road salt. General Manager Jon Bouxsein says for the association, that’s a lot of money. Legislation making its way through the Illinois General Assembly could help them save money by allowing the association to purchase the road salt through the Northville Township. Bouxsein says the association and the township have been able to work together but they needed a better way to get road salt to help the township at large.
As the association plows about 26 miles of roads in and around the township during the winter, the township is using more sand than salt.
The bill has passed the Illinois Senate and is making its way through the Illinois House.
