The city of Ottawa has a new mayor. Robb Hasty was sworn in at last night’s city council meeting by Appellate Court judge Joe Hettel.

He’s taking over for Dan Aussem who spent the last four years as Ottawa’s mayor. Hasty says he’s ready to get to work and quoted a reverend after he was sworn in. He says although everything won’t be done perfectly all the time, we can remember that we are responsible for the actions of the community.

Aussem says he knows Hasty and New Ottawa Commissioner Brent Barron will bring fresh ideas, but everyone will do what’s best for the city. During his final statement to the city council, he thanked all the people that worked with him for the last sixteen years when he was a commissioner and as a mayor.

After the new city council was sworn in, they picked which commissioners will be in charge of which departments and approved appointments for police chief, fire chief, and other city departments.
