The 100 Club of Illinois recognized eight firefighters from the Ottawa Fire Department and one Ottawa police officer for going above and beyond the call of duty. Fire Chief Brian Bressner says it was for their work to put out a fire in the 1500 block of Sycamore Street on Christmas Eve morning last year. The firefighters got the award in a banquet hall in Elgin.

He lists the names of the firefighters:

The 100 Club of Illinois provides financial support, access to training, and moral support to emergency services workers. He says the award is a great moral boost for the department but they don’t have to keep being awarded every time because they are doing what they are supposed to do as firefighters. Although the fire was put out, a woman and a child died after they were rescued.
