Wendell “Breezy” Cofoid, 86, of Oglesby, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Paul Bladen, Pastor of Deer Park Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Deer Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Wendell was born on March 2, 1937 in LaSalle to Maurice and Ora (Nelson) Cofoid. He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School, class of 1955. Wendell married Janet Nelson on October 6, 1962 in Tonica. He served as a member of the National Guard for 6 years, the LaSalle County Farm Bureau, Waltham Curling Club, the Deer Park School Board, and the Deer Park Township Board. Wendell was a lifelong farmer in Deer Park Township, and was also an owner operator truck driver. He spent many years as an elite pitcher in the Farm Bureau Fast Pitch Softball League.
He is survived by a son, Timothy (Kathleen) Cofoid of Ottawa; a daughter, Laurie (George) Rieuf of Marseilles; three grandsons, Jacob Rieuf and Zachary and Aidan Cofoid; a sister, Betty Cofoid of Irvine, CA; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Cofoid and Mary Kay Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; and a brother, Warren Cofoid. Pallbearers will be Jacob Rieuf, Zachary Cofoid, Aidan Cofoid, Scott Cofoid, Marty Terselic, and Mike Scully. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Keith and Stan Brandau.
