The Ottawa Elementary School Board wants more information before deciding if they want to move forward with a Community Solar Program. The board heard presentations from two companies two weeks ago. Now they want to hear from School Architect Bill Taylor to make sure the project could happen if the district decides they need another building in the farmland south of Central School where the solar panels would go. Board members like the idea of the program, but they also want to make sure that it’s worth the forty years the land could be used for solar panels. Community Solar allows businesses and residents to get some of their electricity from a solar farm in the state. The school district is looking to start its own program so the district can save money on electricity costs. Residents around Ottawa could later also benefit from the solar panels by being a part of the program.
