Sen. Rezin says deaths from fentanyl should be labeled poisonings–not overdoses

St. Sen. Sue Rezin feels there should be a different conversation about fentanyl-related deaths. She introduced a bill to require coroners and medical examiners to record them as caused by fentanyl poisoning, not an overdose. Rezin says that would acknowledge that no one’s taking fentanyl intentionally, because it’s being mixed with other drugs without the users knowing. And she says families would have an easier time talking about what happened.

Rezin and other Republicans talked about bills they want to pass to help crime victims. Another related to fentanyl would increase penalties for selling drugs tainted with it, and another would let pharmacies sell test strips to detect it.
