Sen. Dick Durbin says negotiations over how much money the U.S. can borrow and how much it spends on Social Security, Medicare, and other programs should be separate. For years, the federal government has been in a position of having to borrow more money to pay back other loans. And numerous businesses depend on the government’s money to keep flowing.
