Quarrel starts at LaSalle City Council after music special event permit approval

One LaSalle alderman is worried that one resident will keep complaining about the noise from music at night no matter what. The comment was made after the city council approved a special event permit for a “Dueling Pianos” event at the Nicks on Six bar. Alderman Jim Bacidore claims former Alderman “Diz” Demes keeps calling the police because the music from the bar is still too loud after the 11pm curfew and will keep doing it all summer. He says the city can’t keep dealing with this over and over again if it’s five or ten minutes late. Mayor Jeff Grove and Alderman Bob Thompson disagreed.

Bacidore also brought up a letter written by Grove that asked bands to register with the city if they are playing somewhere. Grove says he took the idea back after hearing from bands.

Demes has been critical of the bar in the past for loud music. When the city updated their noise ordinance he voted no when the city updated their ordinance last year to clarify decibel levels. Grove says people change and remain positive that maybe the city won’t be dealing with the calls all the time.
