Oglesby is tops in voter turnout

Voter turnout from community to community in LaSalle County ranged from less than 10% to more than 40%. Areas with the lowest turnout included Mendota precincts where there were no contests for alderperson and no candidate for city treasurer. Those precincts had around 6% turnout. It was similar in Northville Township where there were no contests for library trustee races and no candidate for regional school trustee.

Oglesby had some of the highest turnout with one precinct (LaSalle 11) topping all others in the county with 47%. That suggests people were very concerned about the mayoral and city commissioner race outcomes. Some Ottawa and South Ottawa precincts were also above 40%, suggesting strong interest in the mayor and commissioner races there too.

Overall voter turnout in LaSalle County was 21% of 71,668 voters. That’s comparable to results from the most similar consolidated elections in 2019, 2015, and 2011 which were all slightly more than 21% to just under 23%. The consolidated election of 2021 had a 15.3% turnout. That in 2013 had turnout of 30.48%.

Fair comparisons require a lot of analysis, because no two elections are exactly alike. Elections every four years will be similar for most city councils and schools boards considering which positions are at the ends of their terms. But some library districts and the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees have six-year terms.
