A car that caught fire on the Dayton Rd. Fox River Bridge Wednesday morning had mechanical problems. The bridge is closed until the concrete deck damaged in the fire is repaired.
Marseilles Fire Chief Dave Parrott says two people were in the car and got out. They weren’t hurt.
LaSalle County Highway Department Maintenance Supervisor Brian Connell says it could take until late next week to repair the surface and let traffic on again. In the meantime, drivers who’d normally cross the Fox River in Dayton will have to cross elsewhere. Options are the Wedron Blacktop (County Highway 21) northeast of Dayton and Interstate 80 south of Dayton.
