This year marks the 350th anniversary of the Jolliet/Marquette expedition across the US. The LaSalle County Historical Society is remembering the historic event through a one-man play called Louis Jolliet: A Solid Path Through Water. Executive Director Amanda Carter says Jolliet and Jacques Marquette started their expedition in Wisconsin and tried to make it to the Gulf of Mexico. They ended up turning around at the mouth of the Arkansas River. On their way back, they ended up in the Grand Village of the Kaskasksia.

Actor Jim Healy gives his take on Jolliet’s life mapping out the Mississippi River in the play.

The play starts at 1pm Sunday in the Starved Rock Room at Starved Rock Lodge with tickets costing $15. For an additional $10 you can take a Trolley tour to go to where Jolliet and Marquette stopped in the Grand Village of the Kaskaskia. The tours are at 2:30 and 3:30 after the show. People can get tickets through Eventbrite. Tickets will also be sold before the play starts at 12:30pm.
