Up to ten homes in LaSalle could be rehabbed through an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Community Development Block Grant. Connie Buchanan with the North Central Illinois Council of Governments gave a presentation to the LaSalle City Council earlier this week. She says residents who are disabled, make a low income, or are elderly qualify for some of the more than $600,000 grant. She says when an area of the city is picked, residents will receive a survey from the NCICG.
She says when the work is done, the homeowners have to stay at the home for at least five years.
The city council took a straw poll but didn’t vote start work on getting the grant. Residents would get a survey through NCICG once an area the city wants to redo gets picked.
