Marseilles City Council places retirement agreement on file for police chief

Marseille Police Chief Brian Faber is retiring. But not right away. Faber says his last day is in February next year. He first started working part-time at the Earlville Police Department in 1988. After moving around to different police departments like Plano and Oswego, plus a short stint at the Sheridan Correctional Center, he ended up in Marseilles in 1998. He became a full-time officer in 1999 and became chief of police in 2018. The Illinois SAFE-T Act was brought up after the city council approved an agreement to provide their officers with required mental health screenings. He says although there is a negative stigma toward police work right now, he believes there will always be a need for police officers.

He also talked about what a great community Marseilles is and is thankful that the people support the police there. He’s also seen a lot things change in the city over the years. He’s very excited about the Interstate 80 water and sewer project getting finished. He remembers when it was talked about under former Mayor’s Jim Trager and John Knudson.

He says he’s not sure what he’ll do when he retires but there are some things in mind. The Marseilles City Council placed his retirement agreement on file last night.*

*We first reported that Faber’s retirement agreement was approved. It was only placed on file. We apologize.
