SMH closure affecting Peru Fire Department; mayor says city hasn’t forgotten

Peru Fire Chief Jeff King says the closure of St. Margaret’s Hospital is staring to affect the fire department. He told the city council last Saturday a couple was ringing the fire station doorbell because their daughter was having an asthma attack. They told the firefighter on duty they Googled where the closet hospital was and it happened to be SMH.

Initial care was started at the fire department and the family was later taken to another hospital. Mayor Ken Kolowski says the city hasn’t forgotten about the hospital closure.

King says it’s the first time his department has dealt with people not knowing the hospital is closed and he expects to see more of it. Kolowski says he’ s continuing to meet with local and federal representatives. He says he has a meeting with Cong. Lauren Underwood this week.
