Oglesby repairing lightning strike damage to police radio tower

By WCMY News Mar 7, 2023 | 7:03 AM

A lightning strike caused around $30,000 in damage to Oglesby police radio transmitters. The City Council last night authorized spending up to $30,000 on a new electrical ground system to keep it from happening again. Commissioner Terry Eutis expects the city’s insurance carrier to cover the cost of replacement equipment already ordered. Police communications are getting by at lower power.

The fire and ambulance radio tower wasn’t affected. A radio tower service vendor told the city council last night, the police radio tower had minimal grounding.
