A 19-year old Joliet teen will be sentenced in April for shooting at a Grundy County sheriff’s deputy. A jury found Demarcus Denwiddie guilty Friday of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. A deputy tried a traffic stop in the Mazon area in October 2021. Denwiddie fled, crashed his car, then shot at the deputy while running away. The deputy’s protective vest took two bullets and a third bullet went through his forearm. Although charged in Grundy County, Denwiddie has been kept at the LaSalle County jail most of the time since his arrest.
