One in twelve people in Illinois struggle with food insecurity daily, according to Feeding America. SNAP Education, the University of Illinois Extension, and the Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion want to address food insecurity through three conferences. One of them will be held at Illinois Valley Community College Oglesby campus on Thursday, March 8th from 10am to 3pm. The Illinois Hunger and Health Conferences will create partnerships among local, public, and regional organizations working together to address food insecurity and its impact on health. Food pantry staff and volunteers will choose between two breakout sessions to attend the workshops to learn about grant fundraising, innovative ways for food pantries to increase healthy donations, how the SWAP Program works, and Trauma Informed Care at Food Pantries. The event costs $10 to get in and registration for it closes Tuesday. Other groups interested in addressing food insecurities can also apply for the conference on the University of Illinois Extension Office.
