A bad transformer switch caused the city-wide power outage in Oglesby last Wednesday night. Electricians repaired it Monday and put the city back on the main transformer Tuesday morning. But an angry resident questions whether the city ever works on its electrical system. Derik Kostellic criticized the City Council last night for last week’s outage and other problems going back a few years.
Mayor Dominic Rivara says the city has some very old equipment. He says the city’s working on replacing it. Some maintenance that was supposed to start last year didn’t because the contractor couldn’t get the wire needed for it. It’s now scheduled to start next month.
City Commissioner Jason Curran says last week’s problem happened a month before a yearly maintenance inspection. He says the city will take equipment temperatures quarterly to try to detect problems sooner.
