37th District St. Sen Win Stoller wants Gov. Pritzker to provide long-term relief for families dealing with rising energy costs. Before the State of the State Address Wednesday, Stoller says far too many Illinoisans are facing the difficult choice of paying their power bills or other necessities like food and medicine. The Germantown Hills Republican is backing three bills. One would take $200 million from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity fund and given to residents affected by rising energy costs as a rebate. A second bill would cut what Stoller calls “red tape” at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency which he says has prevented new power plants from coming online in a timely matter. A third would create Power Grid Task Force allowing the Illinois General Assembly to look at the impacts of energy policies are having on the state’s ability to meet energy requirements. Stoller says Pritzker can’t pass the most expansive energy legislation in the nation while also claiming it has no effect on energy rates.
