Ottawa High students organizing career fair

By WCMY News Feb 14, 2023 | 9:55 AM

Ottawa High School students figuring out what to do with their lives might get some ideas in the school cafeteria on April 21st. A student-organized career fair will bring in 40 to 50 employers from military and police to local businesses.

Nicholas Hernandez is reaching out to a lot of the employers that could be there. Hernandez likes to work on cars and is hoping to learn about a career path for an auto mechanic.

The students are also asking for sponsors. Joey Marez says they’ll be listed on the Pirate Nation website for $25.

Neveah Wheeler says helping organize a career fair the high school will have in two months has been good for her. She gets to help other people overcome their anxieties and get career direction.

Any employer interested in participating should contact teacher Ashley Carls at Ottawa High School at acarls@ottawahigh.com or 815-433-1323 ext. 3506. Employers should get involved by March 20, if it doesn’t fill up sooner.
