LaSalle County wild turkey hunters took 11 of the birds this season. That’s up from six last season. Bureau County’s number went down from 12 to five. The turkey take in Grundy County stayed the same at two. And in Putnam County, it went up from three to four.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says it was the third highest year with 801 birds taken in the 2022 to 2023 season. That surged upward from 688 in the 2021 to 2022 season.

The state allowed turkey hunting through archery in all 102 counties, and more than 25,000 permits were issued.
