North Central Area Transit is buying three buses with wheelchair lifts. One company put in bids for them by the deadline yesterday before the opening this morning.
Ottawa City Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says the buses will cost $99,500 each. That’s $298,500 and LaSalle County is paying $265,000 to help. Eichelkraut says he’s grateful for that.
He’s also glad the company has the buses to sell right now. Most places he contacted didn’t bid, because they have none to sell.
Earlier this week, he said price increases since the city planned for the purchase could mean there’s enough money for just two.
