Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Peru

Deconstruction service launched by Habitat for Humanity of LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties

Habitat for Humanity of LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties has a free deconstruction service. Jessica Brayfield with the Habitat Restore says the new program has volunteers come to a home to gently deconstruct kitchens. She says this helps many people who can’t afford brand new cabinets, countertops, or appliances.

But with their service, the items that get disassembled go to the Restore to be resold.

She also says 1,500 tons of usable material is sent to a landfill instead of being reused like the Restore wants to do. Homeowners also get a tax deduction for their donations but you have to go to your tax person to get the value of the things donated. Anyone interested can call the Restore at 815-434-2041 and dial extension 005.
