A Morris teenager gets a 35-year sentence for murder. Cortez Rice pleaded guilty a few weeks ago to shooting 25-year old Beverly Lambert twice in the back of her head. She showed up at an apartment building to pick up her nearly two-year old child from a babysitter on an August afternoon when Rice followed her inside and shot her.
That was moments after he asked someone else in the building for a ride and that person told him to go away. Police and prosecutors say Rice then took off in Lambert’s car. Police found him in Joliet.
Published reports say Grundy County Judge Scott Belt sentenced Rice yesterday afternoon.
