Oglesby to start getting utility tax money not paid for three decades

Oglesby Mayor Dominic Rivara estimates more than $300,000 that should have been paid to the city wasn’t. Ameren collected utility taxes for natural gas and electricity used at Illinois Valley Community College for three decades. That money is for the city, but the city got only some of it.

Rivara says he can’t believe Ameren didn’t catch the discrepancy. But the city didn’t either. He says City Hall discovered it by looking at what IVCC pays and wondering why only some of it was making its way to the city.
