Streator library dome repairs starts next week

The Streator Library’s Dome is getting repaired starting next week. Library Director Cindy Maxwell says lighting will be replaced, cracks on the inside of the dome will be repaired, and the three murals on the dome will be restored. She says some of the damage to the murals was caused by a fire that started in the library’s boiler room in 1945.

The library got a $139,000 grant from the Illinois Institute of Museums and Library Services and also raised $140,000 to pay for the project. Maxwell says everything should be finished by late September or early October this year. The library will be open during construction, except for Monday, February 13th and Tuesday the 14th because construction crews will be setting up.
