The Penguin Plunge raised more than $52,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation. It snowed a little before people jumped into a pond at Skydive Chicago this afternoon. Suzie Johnson went for the second time and took her dad Dave from Marseilles with her for his first.
Dave Johnson says the family has a connection to the cause. Make A Wish grants wishes for seriously ill children. Those often are special trips or experiences. A Johnson relative got a wish granted several years ago.
The personal connection is a common story among the plungers. Monica Maginn of Rock Island says a friend’s child got a wish granted. She has jumped many times.
Maginn dressed as a bright yellow rubber duck. She got a toy penguin for coming from the farthest away.
