A public defender is appointed to represent a Streator man who was shot in Streator’s Central Park Monday morning. Thirty-one year old Jacob R. Thompson needs $5,000 to bond out of jail. That’s 10% of the bond Judge H. Chris Ryan set this morning when Thompson got the charge of aggravated assault against a peace officer.

Prosecutors say police went to the park when someone reported a man with a knife threatening someone. Thompson allegedly wouldn’t put down the knife and tried to attack a police officer with it. The police officer shot Thompson.

Thompson was in a hospital shortly after the incident until yesterday afternoon. He’s to be in court again February 9. The police officer wasn’t hurt and is on leave as is required after such an incident.
