LaSalle County coroner wants more office space

LaSalle County Coroner Rich Ploch is looking for more office space. He told the LaSalle County Board Property Committee that one of his deputies dealt with a problem that could have ended up much worse than it did. He says the job requires the office to collect prescription drugs from people who died because they have to see how much a person took. A deputy found pills and a baggie of synthetic opioid fentanyl in a prescription drug bottle that was collected from a dead person’s house.

He also says the office doesn’t have running water which is a problem because his staff works with hazardous chemicals next to where they do other work.

Ploch says the office also isn’t compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. He’s had to hold meetings before when a person in a wheelchair had to sit outside the office. He also says it’s hard to have a conversation with someone about a person’s death when the restrooms are next to the office and people can hear what’s going on. The LaSalle County Property Committee didn’t recommend anything at last weeks meeting.
