Animals could have trouble from prolonged or repeated exposure to the potassium permanganate that fell on places in and near LaSalle after the Carus Chemical fire. The Illinois Department of Agriculture says animals at risk of exposure to it need to be sheltered if possible. Their paws and coats need to be wiped off when they go inside. And don’t give them water or feed that could have the compound in it, although oral and intestinal irritation are unlikely. The department says some animals could have trouble breathing or breathing troubles they already had could be aggravated. It says monitor them for skin irritation.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has a document on it at this link.
