Peru discussing allowing dogs on more public park paths

Dogs could be allowed in more park paths in Peru. Some city council members want to change an ordinance to allow dogs on a leash on walking paths, especially around Baker Lake. Alderman Bob Tieman says in this day in age dog owners are a lot more mindful about cleaning up their dogs. Alderman Jason Edgcomb says as long as a dog is leashed, they should be allowed in a city park. He also says if people are worried about dog leaving droppings behind, they should be worried about what the geese at the lake leave behind. However, if a person is causing a problem at a park they could still be ticketed. City Attorney Scott Schweickert says there could be an issue with the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp because the city leases a part of Veteran’s Memorial Park to the team that includes part of the walking path around it. The council will discuss it again at the next city council meeting.
