Oglesby Police Chief Hayse announces retirement

By WCMY News Jan 4, 2023 | 5:10 AM

Oglesby Police Chief Doug Hayse is retiring. His official last day will be on January 17th. Mayor Dominic Rivara read his letter of resignation allowed to the council. Hayse was first appointed as the interim police chief back in 2020 before interviewing to become the full-time police chief. Hayse says it was quite a challenge in the beginning when he started because police officers were not getting along with each other and not agreeing on assignments they were given.

But once that was fixed Hayse wanted to get the department focused more on community policing, which he says was his biggest accomplishment.

Assistant Chief Mike Margis is now the new interim police chief after an ordinance was approved by the city council last night. Hayse also says in the future a deputy chief will be appointed for the first time in the city’s history after a law was changed to allow it. Hayse says Margis was picked because of how much he has been trained in.
