LaSalle County Republican Party Chairman Larry Smith will join 12 other GOP chairs late next week to decide who represents the 53rd Illinois Senate district. Jason Barickman had the job and ran for it unopposed, but he resigned effective last Thursday. That gives the party chairmen in the 13 counties where his district reaches up to 30 days to name a replacement.
They’ll meet Saturday, January 7th at 10am at the Elks Club in Pontiac. Each GOP chairman gets a vote weighted by how many Republican votes were cast in the race last month. The LaSalle County share is 8.8%. It’s seventh–right in the middle–by weight. None of the chairmen have a majority in the vote by themselves.
