The city of Ottawa is leaving some water in the Illinois and Michigan Canal for the winter. Ottawa Canal Association President Arnie Bandstra says letting it freeze along five blocks provides lots of space for winter recreation. He says it’s ready for all forms of ice skating.
There are no ice skate rental places along the canal, so you have to take your own. There aren’t any restrooms either. Bandstra was on WCMY’s morning program last week with Jay LeSeure.
