Last night on WCMY, The Ottawa Lady Pirates hosted and defeated Canton 44-39 at the Ottawa Holiday Tournament. Marlie Orlandi led all scorers with 20 points in the victory. Due to the winter storm advisory tonight, the championship game has been rescheduled for January 2nd against Metamora.

 

Other results from the holiday tournament, LP won big over Newark 50-23 and Streator fell to Morris 28-17.

 

Elsewhere in girls basketball, Seneca won a 36-35 thriller over Serena. Allysa Zellers finished with a game high 12 points for the Lady Irish.

 

Last night in boys varsity basketball, Marquette suffered a  72-42  loss at Bader Gym to Aurora Marmion Academy. The Crusaders were led by Logan Nelson with 12 points and 11 more added by Krew Bond.

 

The LP/ Ottawa swim team were winners at home over Metamora and Kewanee. Individual winners for LPO were Chris Lowery in the 200 medley and the 100 breaststroke and Owen Phillips won the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. The LPO relay teams won the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle.

 

The Chicago Bulls hit a last-second shot to beat the Atlanta Hawks 110-108 at the State Farm Arena.  Ayo Dosunmu had a put-back lay-up at the buzzer to win the game.  DeMar DeRozan poured in 28 points in the victory.  The Bulls have won their last two games and will visit the Knicks tomorrow night.

 

The Blackhawks continued their dreadful stretch of games with a 4-2 loss to the Nashville Predators at the United Center.  The Hawks have now lost their last eight games and 16 of its last 17.  The Blackhawks host Columbus tomorrow night.

 

In College hoops

Eastern Illinois pulled off the biggest college basketball upset by point spread in the modern era  by knocking off the Iowa Hawkeyes 92-83 on the road. The Panthers were a 31 point underdog. 

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on a three-game losing streak following a 73-72 loss to Florida State at Donald L. Tucker Center yesterday.   

 

Number-16 Illinois takes on the Mizzou Tigers in the Braggin’ Rights game at The Enterprise Center in St. Louis tonight.  The Illini are coming off a victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday. Other games today, Loyola visits Stanford, Bradley hosts Akron and Northern Illinois is on the road against Indiana State.

 

Tonight the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to take on the Jets in New York on Thursday Night Football.  The Jaguars will be looking to continue their recent run of success by winning a third straight game.  The Jets are hoping to avoid their fourth straight loss.
